As governments become more receptive to evidence-based solutions, so too must universities become more receptive to expanding their thinking beyond the simple production of a research report.

Policy processes are complex, layered and develop over time.  They must take into account current political climate, the competing views of key stakeholders and policy actors and the priorities of the research agendas of universities and institutes themselves.

It is the aim of the Eidos Institute to introduce Eidos university network participants to alternate platforms, mechanisms and practices targeted to influence government and enhance the impact of research.  Specifically, Eidos works to impact policy formulation through:

• Facilitating the movement of academic experts and promising young university students through tertiary exchange programs with international universities and two-way secondments with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet;
• Providing independent platforms for research-based policy ideas to be tested and synthesised;
• Building collective momentum by involving academics experts from more than one university in order to increase legitimacy of policy recommendations; and
• A recognition that a small degree of influence targeted at the highest levels of governance is more effective than a bottom-up approach to influencing government
