This one day workshop revolves around presentation and analysis of the avenues for profiling research agendas and outcomes, with a particular focus on building sustainable collaboration and integrating the arms of industry and small business, government and academia.

Participants will engage in a reflection on the current research, policy and political context in Australia and the way this can inform the structure, targets and achievements of Australian universities, in addition to hearing from leading innovators in this area from relevant government departments.

Staged in partnership with RMIT University and with contributing guests from the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education on completion of this workshop participants will have an applied understanding of:

  • Avenues and platforms for profiling research agendas and outcomes via networks and third party translators such as the Eidos Institute;
  • Key methods and mechanisms for improving industry engagement and support of research projects and agendas;
  • Creating effective partnerships with federal and state government, through use of real life case studies and utilising the architecture of networks to develop a sustainable business model; and
  • Strategies for building large-scale collaborations post-commonwealth funding (particularly post-CRC strategy).

About the Presenters

Professor Bruce Muirhead - CEO, Eidos Institute

As the founding and current Chief Executive Officer of Eidos Institute, he has had more than 25 years experience in building partnerships between the public and private sector. Eidos Institute is the recent recipient of an Australian Business Innovation Award (2010) and a Lord Mayor’s Innovation Award (2011). As CEO he is responsbile for identifying and influenicning emerging ideas, researching opportuntities and implementing the management and project developments that identify and expand Eidos goals.

Professor Denise Meredyth - Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), RMIT

Professor Denise Meredyth is a Chief Investigator and Project Leader in the CCI and a Deputy PVC, Research and Innovation at RMIT University. Her background is in education, social policy and cultural sociology. Denise is currently involved in various team-based projects which explore the relationship between opportunity, information, cultural institutions and civic capacity.
